Marine Patrol enables BHPD to render aid or service to locations not easily accessible from land. Our geography is unique in that we are, in essence, a peninsula at the north end of a barrier island. Our northern border connects to another barrier island via the Baker's Haulover bridge, spanning the Baker's Haulover inlet. This inlet provides the only ocean access to Northern Biscayne Bay from the Atlantic ocean and is often used to smuggle contraband and migrants.
Our Marine Patrol Officers are responsible for coastal security and boater safety. Officers are responsible for enforcing laws related to water traffic, preventing crime on vessels and shores, and providing search and rescue services.
Officers patrol the streets, beach, and Intracoastal Waterway, using an array of cutting-edge tools and vehicles keeping BHPD ahead of those conducting illicit activities in our area.
