BAL HARBOUR (February 10, 2026) – The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) has issued a Water Shortage Warning for several South Florida counties, including Miami-Dade, due to continued dry weather and lower-than-normal water levels.
This warning does not mean water service is impacted or that mandatory restrictions are in place. It is an early notice encouraging communities to use water wisely while dry conditions continue.
Lower rainfall and increased water use have contributed to declining groundwater levels in the Biscayne Aquifer, the main source of drinking water for Miami-Dade County. Taking small steps to conserve water now can help protect this vital resource.
Local water utilities continue to operate normally and are closely monitoring water supply conditions. In partnership with SFWMD, residents and businesses are encouraged to voluntarily reduce non-essential water use to help support long-term water sustainability.
The Biscayne Aquifer supplies drinking water to millions of South Floridians. By conserving water during this dry period, residents can help reduce stress on the system and lessen the need for stricter measures later.
How You Can Help
Residents are encouraged to consider the following water-saving actions:
- Reduce or pause lawn irrigation when possible
- Check sprinklers and household fixtures for leaks
- Avoid washing vehicles, boats, or driveways unless necessary
- Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads
- Be mindful of water use during peak morning and evening hours
SFWMD will continue monitoring conditions and will provide updates if the situation changes.
