Mauricio Escarra’s commitment to public service began over two decades ago when he joined the ranks of the Hialeah Police Department in 1993 as a Police Officer. Deputy Chief Escarra’s career with the Hialeah Police Department spanned over two decades giving him the opportunity to serve within several operational, investigative, administrative and managerial capacities. He ascended through the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant and District Commander. As part of those duties, Deputy Chief Escarra oversaw the City of Hialeah Public Safety Answering Point, which is the 911 call center for the entire municipality. As a District Commander, Deputy Chief Escarra was responsible for the complete oversight of a District which encompassed approximately 60,000 residents with a focus and emphasis on Community Policing.
Deputy Chief Escarra joined the Bal Harbour Police Department on December 7, 2015 as a member of the department’s managerial team. He is responsible for managing the Police Communications Center, Code Enforcement Unit, and the Police Reserve Program. He is also responsible for providing logistical support to include managing the Bal Harbour Village fleet.
Deputy Chief Escarra is a product of the City of Hialeah where he was born and raised until his graduation from Monsignor Edward Pace High School. Deputy Chief Escarra graduated from Miami-Dade Community College with an Associate of Arts Degree with highest honors. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts with honors in Criminal Justice from Florida Atlantic University. He then completed his graduate course work at Florida International University with a Master of Public Administration degree.
Deputy Chief Escarra is a graduate of the prestigious University of Louisville, Southern Police Institute, Command Officer Development Course. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Homeland Security and Emergency Management from Florida International University.
Deputy Chief Escarra is a former board member of the Miami-Fort Lauderdale Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI). He is also a current member of the Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police and the Florida Association of Code Enforcement.
