Art Installation, “The Power of Words”, brings a message of unity to launch Miami Art Week in Bal Harbour

Bal Harbour, FL (December 1, 2023) – Bal Harbour Village is set to unveil a new exhibit, “The Power of Words”,  as part of its Unscripted Art Basel & Miami Art Week lineup. The curated exhibit will open to the public on Sunday, December 3 at 4 p.m. with a VIP opening reception with artist Tania EA (Tania Esponda Aja). The exhibit is an original installation that will create an immersive experience throughout the Village’s 102 Street Beach Access Path. The art installation aims to bring art to the local community centered around a unifying message of love, connection, and compassion.

Bal Harbour Village has become synonymous with curated art activations and exclusive access to arts and culture in South Florida. Through the Unscripted Art Access and Art in Public Spaces programs, residents and hotel guests have enjoyed unparalleled access to the visual arts. Past installations included the “Americana and Levittown House” exhibits in 2013, the Robert Chambers’ “Rotorelief” in 2018, and an ongoing partnership with the Opera Gallery for a year-round annual exhibition of art and sculptures in public places throughout the Village. “As an avid supporter of the arts and Miami Art Week, the Village wanted to expand on its vision of becoming a destination for the visual arts,” says Bal Harbour Village Manager Jorge Gonzalez. The commissioned exhibit is one of many events included in the Village’s Unscripted Bal Harbour Miami Art Week program.

An experiential art installation was the focus to create a memorable experience for our residents and visitors. The custom installation is the first of its kind in Bal Harbour – creating a sense of place and an immersive experience where art and nature become one. Manager Gonzalez explains, “Our goal was to highlight our local art scene in Bal Harbour to create a unique experience for our residents and visitors. We feel that this exhibit exquisitely encapsulates this.”

“The Power of Words”is a multimedia exhibit blending nature, art, and technology into one immersive experience. The art installation invites you to step into a world where language dissolves yet kindness resonates. As guests explore the physical and augmented reality (AR) components of the exhibit, they will discover the artist’s unique typographic language: vibrant red words that weave emotions and meanings around the natural landscape of the area. The installation showcases the enduring strength of emotions, symbols, and the resilience of the human spirit while asking, “Can kindness go beyond words?”

Esponda Aja is an international artist of Mexican origin and resident of Bal Harbour Village. Her artwork focuses on geometry, typographic language, and wine. “Through a language of symbols entirely my own, I dance with diverse materials, orchestrating messages that resonate with the essence of my creative journey. Each piece is a conversation, a poetic dialogue where the art of communication transcends conventional boundaries,” says artist Tania Esponda Aja. Her artistic practice is centered on decoding the relationship between geometry, language, and wine, employing diverse materials and new techniques to articulate specific messages. Esponda Aja explains, “In ‘The Power of Words’ each gentle word, etched in an eco-friendly embrace, becomes a whisper in the wind, a hug for the earth. This exhibit is not just art; it’s an immersive journey, an invitation to experience the profound dance between language and nature. As I share messages of love and hope, I hope the visitors feel the resonance of kindness that transcends the boundaries of spoken words, fostering a new, meaningful connection with both art and the world around us. With a message: Let’s Bloom Kindness!” Her innovative approach captivates audiences while pushing the boundaries of artistic expression and language.

Bal Harbour Mayor Jeffrey Freimark says “In Bal Harbour Village, we have a collective commitment to fostering cultural enrichment within the community. We are regularly searching for opportunities to invest in the arts and making art accessible to our community.” With an abundance of art installations throughout the Village and access to the finest art and cultural institutions around South Florida, Bal Harbour is living up to this promise.  “This one-of-a-kind exhibit exemplifies human connection and transcends cultures and languages. In such difficult times, this exhibit brings to light a positive message of global unity,” says Mayor Freimark.
