Lieutenant Oscar Amago joined the Village of Bal Harbour Police Department on January 05, 2015 as a member of the Command Staff overseeing daily patrol operations and various administrative functions, within the Uniform Patrol Division. Lt. Amago began his law enforcement career in 1984, with the City of Hialeah Police Department, where he meritoriously served for over 30 years. He comes to the Village of Bal Harbour with vast command experience in Management, Uniform Patrol, and an expertise in Special Patrol Operations. Lt. Amago has a comprehensive view of Community Policing. He is committed to the philosophy that supports a collaborative partnership, between law enforcement, and the citizens and organizations of the Village of Bal Harbour. This defines an effort to develop solutions that address and meet the needs of our community.

Lt. Amago has spent over 24 years working and supervising high liability units, such as, Traffic Homicide, Motors, Canine and the Crime Suppression Section. He has a perceptive understanding in identifying problems, and keen sense in the development and evaluation of effective responses, in order to bring about a positive transformation. Two significant assignments of his career that showcase this inherent ability, are his work with the K-9 Unit for over 20 years and more recently his creating, developing and implementation of the Community Response Team (CRT). While working both of these units, Lt. Amago and the officers he supervised and worked with, impacted and significantly reduced major crime affecting citizens for almost three decades.

Lt. Amago is a Miami native who attended Miami Central High School. He is a graduate of the University of Louisville, Southern Police Institute Command Officers Development Course and the FBI, Florida Executive Development Course. Lt. Amago is a member of the Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police.
